Despite the fact that his mother is mainly known for her beauty, and her alluring appearance-Cupid maintains a more-or-less average appearance. Surprising too, considering most would expect him to opt for a more desirable, attractive mortal form. However, unlike his mother, Cupid doesn't favor much of anything flashy or eye-catching. That is quite possibly why his mortal form is average in nearly every way. His hair is a brown, pieced mess-which hardly appears to be combed (something which his mother used to pester him about). He is also noticeably less polished-occasionally sporting a little bit of stubble (purely because he can be too busy or, rather, too lazy to shave). His eyes are a gentle icy blue, though that is a little difficult to tell because he does typically wear a black-rimmed set of glasses. Not that he actually has a reason for wearing the glasses-he simply seems to like the look of them.
His stature is hardly similar to that of a god as well. Rather than being muscular and built, Cupid fits the bill of tall and lanky. He is a skinny guy, but oddly tall, standing at a height of 6'2", As for apparel, his style could be considered semi-formal. For pant-wear, he leans toward jeans for the most part. However, he does typically wear a nicer collared shirt to class up his look-if at least just a little. Sometimes he throws in a classy tie for good measure, but it all depends on his mood. Though the tie really evens out in terms of formality seeing as Cupid will wear a ratty pair of sneakers at the very same time.

Expectations for Cupid's personality: cocky, egotistical, flirtatious and meddlesome. It would be a surprise to most that only one and a half of those personality traits actually apply. Of course, being the god of the three things that he is-Cupid is obviously entitled to at least a little bit of flirting. And that is exactly what he allows himself. He is more interested in other peoples' love lives than his own, so his flirting is kept to a minimum (thus it only counts for 1/2). As for meddling, there is no doubt that he is guilty of it on all accounts. He has a tendency to be nosy when it comes to anything that isn't considered his business. Especially when that 'anything' is someone else's romantic interests. While his meddling isn't as obvious as perhaps his mother's, he still interferes quite frequently. He simply keeps his actions and his meddling more secretive and discreet. After all, that's more fun correct?
Another thing which people may not suspect about Cupid is that, well: he's shy. Plenty of people automatically assume without meeting him that he must be loud, and narcissistic like his mother, however, that simply isn't him. Rather, he is actually surprisingly quiet. He isn't nearly as social as one would expect him to be. It isn't necessarily that he is socially awkward, but he is simply a tad shy and not all that talkative unless he gets on a rant-or if he knows the person.
Cupid is surprisingly friendly though once you get to know him, he is quite polite and rather nice (unlike his mother). Though, he does have a sort of sarcastic and snide humor. However, that is all it is-humor. He hardly means for anything he says to come off as rude. Though when he is faced with someone whom he deems disrespectful or even if they just fit the label of jerk, even the friendly, nice Cupid can't tolerate it. Like all gods, he does have a bit of a temper when he feels greatly offended. His temper is also very prominent when someone he is protective of is either hurt or feels threatened. Now being a shy, meddlesome god, he doesn't exactly come across many friends, but when he does you can bet that he is fiercely protective of them.

As can be said of most gods, Cupid was the result of an affair. A rather well-known ongoing affair between Venus (the goddess of beauty and love) and Mars (the god of war). The relationship was hardly one built on love, and it could hardly even be considered a 'relationship' to begin with. Though everyone, it would seem, was perfectly aware of that. Venus and Mars were together mainly as a result of mutual attraction and an occasional desire for one another's company.
It was more than obvious after his birth that Cupid was very unlike both of his parents. He had neither the temper of his father nor the vivacity of his mother. His appearance was neither off-putting nor extremely exquisite. The only trait that Cupid possessed which suggested that he was related to either of his parents was his instant interest in all things romantic. From the moment his parents realized his natural and impressive talent in matchmaking, the two had very different reactions. Despite the fact that gods weren't exactly known for their affectionate relationships with, Mars and Venus each had hopes that at least they had brought another god into the world who was similar to themselves. Mars was keen for another son who was violent, and a skilled fighter so of course when he was saddled with Cupid, the god of affection, he was rather disappointed. From that point on, the relationship between Cupid and his father was practically nonexistent-and the few times that they interacted, the result was less than affectionate. Mars was only capable of harassing his 'son' with disappointed rants or dramatic yellings-something which probably only helped Cupid's quiet and shy personality. However, he was perfectly capable of standing up to his father after a certain period time. While Cupid is naturally polite and friendly, now he simply treats his father with a cold, detached front.
Fortunately for Cupid, his mother took more of a positive interest in him. She was purely ecstatic when she realized that her son took after her. While she had many illegitimate children, demigods and gods alike, it would seem that Cupid was quite possibly her favorite. He was most like her in his talents, and he wasn't nearly as conceited or self-centered as her other children so she didn't have to vie for the spotlight in their interactions. The two actually had an interesting mother-son dynamic, that was very similar to that of mortal families. Something which was extremely unusual for gods. They mainly talked of 'romantic politics' (as they deemed them), playing silent matchmakers in the mortal and immortal communities. Some of Cupid's most famous pairings including Helen and Troy, Martha and George Washington, and even John F. Kennedy and Jackie Kennedy. His mother, however, did interfere on the last one-the affair between Marilyn Monroe and Kennedy ring a bell? Yes, well he would blame that on his mother.
As for his own love life, there is no doubt that he had many affairs and even some legitimate relationships. The only one which was ever considered relevant, however, was the one which he held with Psyche. Psyche was previously a mere mortal, whose beauty made even Venus jealous. She was eventually made a goddess however at Cupid's request-for he didn't wish to live without her. The two even had a child together-who was more similar to Venus than even Cupid himself-Voluptas, a goddess of pleasure.
